Happy 88th Birthday Gunki!

As I have stated previously, my mom started me on a life long journey of being myself. For a sometimes quiet woman, she had an opinion on everything and never minded sharing with who ever was listening. One of her favorite sayings as I grew up - Dance to your own beat, bring your own band, be your own woman. September 3, 2020 would have been my mom's 88th Birthday. We would have been getting to celebrate it this weekend at our Family Reunion. She would have been bragging on her grandchildren, that I apparently only birthed for her. She loved that the oldest named her Gunki. She never tired or telling anyone where her name came from. She would have hated covid though and probably would have already been arrested for expelling to someone what she thought they should do with their masks.

What she would have loved - Salty Black Dog. Taking a step out of my comfort zone and doing something that she and I only talked about for years in opening up a store for crafters. She would have loved that it involved Dogs, that it involved Jewelry, that it was something that the whole family seems to be now incorporated with in some part. That we have a desire to open it up to other crafters, artisans and remember where it is that we have come from. She would have loved that I've finally followed a tiny dream and am working hard to make it a big reality to show my kids that it can be done.

Covid for mom would have been a time to dive deeper into her quilting once again. She would have been crocheting something for someone and having 100 opinions on what "WE" should be doing with Salty Black Dog. She would have loved the idea that it was a way to remind people to "Stay Salty" for life. A healthy life needs a little salt in it. Our bodies contain salt, our mental status should always be a little salty, and our faith should spread salt over the earth as well. So on the eve of what would have been her 88th Birthday, I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to take a moment tomorrow. Call Your Mom, if you can. If you can not call her, then take a moment to jot down a moment you got to share, a memory that was made, a lesson that was learned. Feel free to share! I'd love to see a picture of you, your mom or the woman who's become a mom in your life. Remember to Stay Salty!
